BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBMA) — A group called White Clergy for Black Lives Matter has raised nearly $60,000 to help cover the costs associated with removing Birmingham’s 115-year-old Confederate monument in Linn Park.
On Monday night the city removed most of the huge stone monument. Earlier in the day, Alabama’s attorney general said the city would be sued one time for $25,000 if it was removed. There were some concerns that tax payer money would be used to cover the cost, but the funds raised will easily cover the total for removing the statue and relocating it.
